Aftercare advice

  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture continues to work after your session, so giving your body some space to respond is an important part of the treatment.

    After your session

It’s common to feel relaxed, calm, sleepy, or slightly light-headed. Take a moment before standing up and avoid rushing straight back into a busy day. If you feel drowsy, wait until you feel fully alert before driving.

For the rest of the day

Try to keep the day gentle if you can. Light movement such as walking or stretching is fine, but intense exercise may be best avoided, especially after your first treatment. Drink water, eat regular meals, and allow yourself extra rest if your body asks for it.

    What you may notice

You might feel pleasantly tired, emotionally lighter, or notice subtle changes in your symptoms. Occasionally symptoms can shift or briefly feel different before settling. Small bruises, mild soreness, or tiny spots of bleeding at needle sites can happen and usually fade on their own over the following few days.

    Supporting the effects

Acupuncture works best when combined with awareness of your body. Notice how you feel over the next few days, including changes in sleep, energy, mood, pain, or digestion, and share this at your next session. This helps tailor future treatments.

    When to get in touch

If anything feels unusual, worrying, or does not settle, please contact us. Trust your instincts. It’s always better to check if you’re unsure.

    Looking ahead

Acupuncture often has a cumulative effect, meaning benefits can build over a course of treatments rather than from a single session. Each treatment is adjusted based on how your body responds.

  • Cupping

Cupping works by encouraging circulation and releasing deeper layers of tension. After treatment, your body continues to respond, so gentle aftercare helps support this process.

    After your session

It’s common to feel relaxed, warm, or slightly tired. You may notice circular marks on the skin. These are a normal response to cupping and usually fade within a few days to a week.

For the rest of the day

Try to keep the day gentle. Light movement such as walking is fine, but avoid intense exercise, heavy lifting, saunas, or very hot baths. Drink water regularly and allow yourself extra rest if you feel tired.

    Caring for the skin

Keep the treated areas warm and protected from cold or wind. Avoid massaging or irritating the marks while they are present. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and apply a gentle moisturiser if the skin feels dry or tight.

    What you may notice

Mild soreness, stiffness, or a feeling similar to post-exercise tenderness can occur and usually settles within a day or two. Some people notice changes in pain, movement, or energy levels as the body adjusts.

    When to get in touch

If you experience excessive pain, blistering, swelling, or anything that feels unusual or concerning, please contact us. It’s always better to check if you’re unsure.

    Looking ahead

Cupping is often most effective when used as part of a broader treatment plan rather than as a one-off session. Treatment is adapted based on how your body responds.

  • PRP

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy uses your own blood’s growth factors to support tissue repair and skin renewal. Aftercare helps your body settle into the healing process, maximising results and comfort.

    After your session

It’s normal to notice warmth, mild swelling, redness, tenderness or slight itching around the treatment area — this usually settles over a few days.

    Rest and activity

Take the rest of the day gently, allowing your body some space to respond. Light movement like walking is fine, but avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths or intense workouts for at least 24-48 hours to support healing and reduce inflammation.

    Skin care and clothing

Keep treated areas clean and avoid rubbing, scrubbing or touching them unnecessarily. For facial PRP, avoid makeup, harsh products, exfoliants, chemical peels or retinoids for at least 24 hours, and introduce skincare products gradually over the next few days, until the skin irritation resolves. Moisturise gently and protect from excessive heat or cold.

    Hydration and lifestyle

Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food — hydration and balanced nourishment support your body’s natural healing processes. For a few days after treatment, it’s wise to avoid alcohol, smoking and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin) when possible, as these can interfere with the body’s inflammatory healing response.

    Sun and heat exposure

Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, solariums and prolonged heat for several days after treatment. When outdoors, protect your skin with a hat and gentle sunscreen once the initial healing period has passed.

    Signs to monitor

If discomfort is mild and fading, that is usual. However, if you notice excessive pain, spreading redness, persistent swelling, significant warmth, fever, drainage or any unusual reaction — please contact us promptly. It’s always better to check in if you’re unsure.

    Looking ahead

Many people continue to see improvements over days to weeks following PRP, as regenerative processes unfold. Future sessions and personalised guidance help tailor treatment to your goals and response.

  • Microneedling

Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin that trigger your body’s natural healing and collagen production. Because your skin is more sensitive right after treatment, simple aftercare helps protect it, support healing, and optimise results.

    Immediately after your session

Your skin may look red, feel warm, tight, or slightly tender — similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal and usually settles over the next few hours or days.

    Rest and movement

For the rest of the day, keep activities gentle. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy sweating, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, or very hot showers for at least 48–72 hours after treatment. This helps reduce irritation and supports healing.

    Cleaning and hydration

Wait at least 6–8 hours after treatment before gently washing your face with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry gently; do not rub, scrub, or use exfoliating tools. Keep the skin well moisturised with a simple, hydrating product as it heals.

    Avoid strong products

For the first few days (typically 3–5 days), avoid skincare products with active ingredients such as retinoids, acids (AHA/BHA), exfoliants, and harsh or perfumed products. These can irritate the sensitive skin while it’s healing.

    No makeup at first

Try to avoid makeup for 24–48 hours after treatment so the skin can breathe and recover without obstruction. Once skin tolerance returns, you can reintroduce very gentle, non-comedogenic products.

    Sun exposure and protection

Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun after microneedling. Avoid direct sun exposure while healing and always use a broad-spectrum SPF once you are ready for sun protection. This supports healing and helps prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation.

    What you may notice

Mild flaking, dryness, or light peeling can occur as part of the normal healing process, typically over the first week. Do not pick, scratch, or peel the skin — let it shed naturally.

    When to contact us

If you experience significant pain, persistent or spreading redness, swelling that worsens, or any unusual reaction, contact us. While mild reactions are normal, prolonged or severe symptoms should be checked.

    Looking ahead

Microneedling results often build over days to weeks as collagen and tissue renewal continue. Treatments are customised over time, so sharing your experience at follow-ups helps shape the best plan for you.
